But It Wasn't Meant to Be

There was nothing.
And then there was something.
But it wasn't meant to be.
Leaving for my journey,
you could have convinced me.
I want you to say,
"Hold on, don't go through."
If anyone could do it,
you know it'd be you.
But even if I did stay,
too much is going on.
You've got your world,
I've got nothing,
nothing but this song.
You must remain,
you love her,
even if she doesn't love you.
You say she does,
whatever.
You do what you have to do.
My situation is tragic;
for me nothing works out.
But it's okay, I'll manage,
even though I've got my doubts.
If it's too good to be true, it usually is.
I've learned this the hard way.
But the situation doesn't matter,
because we both know I can't stay.
There's only one option,
only one thing we can do.
You go on with your unrequited love,
and I'll just go ahead and move.
If, in the future, again we meet,
what then will arise?
Will we still talk, flirt, have fun,
or will we avoid each other's eyes?
