But You're Not There

My fingers run through your hair
You sleep silently and peacefully
Your back pressed against my front
My head resting on your shoulder

Silence hugging us together
No one around to break it
Heat from our bodies keeping us warm and comfortable

You wake and turn to me
Smiling you take my hand,
And hold it in yours, holding it close to your heart

I stare into your eyes
Wondering how I deserve you
I was being blessed by God,
Your smile, your laugh, your heart

Butterflies fluttering through me,
As you lean toward me, softly kissing my forehead
My nose next, then my lips

Heart stopping and blood pulsing
Kissing back, pulling away I smile at you
But you're not there...
