Daddy's Little Girl

My daddy couldn't be here,
because he lives so far away,
but I know he wishes he could be,
since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know,
all about my daddy,
and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories.
He taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with red roses.
He taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice creamin a cone,
and though you cannot see him,
I'm not standing here alone.

Cause my daddy's always with me,
even though we are apart.
I know because he told me,
he'll be forever in my heart.

I love my daddy very much.
He's my shining star.
And I know if he could he would be here,
but heavens just too far.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away.
I just close my eyes and I see him,
with me here today.

You can never loose the ones you love,
Their hearts, with you, will stay.
Watching down on you from up above,
for forever and a day.

I place my hand upon my heart,
beneath my collar bone.
The hand upon my shoulder
shows im no longer alone.

I feel him in the room,
the rest of the class stares.
Their eyes wide upon the desk.
I look up and thank my daddy,
with the red rose held to my chest.

Another one he left me,
supporting me through this.
My mummy blinks back her tears,
then smiles and blows a kiss.

I didn't think I'd do this,
until I was past my teens.
Explaining to my friends,
how much my daddy means.

The other kid's daddy's,
all look down with guilt.
"Another deadbeat dad" they say,
But my confidence doesn't wilt.

At least they all know now,
why my daddy can't be here.
When the other kids introduce their dad's to,
the rest of our year.
