You're Not There

Like cries through the camp,
I call out to you.
No one responds,
The makeshift houses smoldering in the blazes.
I wish I was with you again,
But sadly, you're gone.
Instead, a few years later,
I find you again.
I smile because I found you,
But, you're not there.
My senses tell me,
you're not the person I once loved.
You tell me to give you a hug,
but I stand still.
Aware of my surroundings.
You come to me and pull me into an embrace.
Against my will,
I hug you back.
The stinging sensation in my arms,
Are on fire.
I let go, hoping the pain would stop,
but it didn't.
You're standing in front of me,
But you're not there.
