Goodbye

She plays the part of a rebel, but she's not acting misunderstood
She's sure no one will ever love her, but she she wishes someone would
She always seems indifferent, but she knows it's just pretend
Because she cares about someone, and he's her only friend

And he wishes he meant something more
Because he thinks he knows her
But if he knew a damn thing
He'd know no one knows her

She hides behind her lies
She cries each time before she says good night
She prays, every day, that he'll stay
Because he's the one that's always on her mind
He sees it in her eyes
He hears it in her sighs and her goodbyes

She denies all her feelings because she doesn't believe in love
She tells him they can still be friends, but he has heard enough
He will soon find out that walking out was a mistake
When they're pulling up her body from the bottom of a lake

He thought he knew her
But if he knew a damn thing
He'd know no one knew her

She hides behind her lies
She dives from the highest point, the closest to the sky
He prays that one day, she'll breathe again
He's the only one that's on her side
He saw it in her eyes
He heard in her sighs and her goodbyes

Goodbye
He'll never say goodbye
He hates those words

Goodbye
He says his last goodbye
He'll never say goodbye another time

Hello
He says hello to her
But in another world

They find their lives were so alike
But now they're so alive
They're finally alive

He thought he loved her
And if he knew a damn thing
He'd know no one loved her

July 2008. I suppose it's more of a song than a poem. I could tell you exactly what I mean by every word of this, but I couldn't tell you where it all came from.
