Six Sonnets of the Secret Sweethearts' Second Date

Into the night, does Juliet escape,
to find Romeo for their second date.
She stopped to watch the wondrous sky scape,
not thinking how it could dictate her fate.

She found him and sat there under the stars,
he told her stories of patterns above.
He said, ‘this story is much like ours,
of someone who fights to protect their love.

That one’s called Perseus, high in the sky,
who saved fair Andromeda from her death.
In return, his hand she could not deny,
but all plans were lost as quick as a breath.

One named Phineus already had the right,
So Perseus challenged him to a fight.’

But before he tells you how it does end,
Mercutio and Benvolio are
spying on Romeo, their closest friend.
The two are in shock, even from afar.

You should also know of plans that are made,
by Paris and Tybalt on this fair night.
Romeo is to be pierced with their blade,
then with his love, Paris can close his plight.

Romeo’s friends go and tell Montague,
Capulet sees that his daughter is not there.
Montague wishes this news was untrue,
Capulet worries as he runs through night air.

Will the parents or killers get there first?
No one is sure which answer is the worst.

Romeo said, ‘the two fought hard and long,’
Juliet stopped him with tears in her eyes.
Romeo didn’t know what he’d done wrong,
then Juliet kissed him to his surprise.

Then Tybalt found them there under the sky,
and he shouted to him, ‘hey, lover boy!’
And when Juliet continued to cry,
Romeo would not let him take their joy.

He stood up with his sword at the ready,
knowing clearly what Tybalt implied.
And Paris caught up, his hand unsteady,
only wanting Juliet for his bride.

With his quick stroke, Tybalt started the fight.
The fight that would rage on into the night.

Romeo fought fine, as best as he could,
but two against one is never quite fair.
Tybalt cut Romeo right where he stood,
and he fell into Juliet’s arms right there.

With one quick look at the cut on his arm,
Juliet became fearless with fury.
She lashed out at Tybalt and caused him harm,
but Paris caught her quick out of worry.

Tybalt said, ‘don’t make me do this cousin,’
and put his sword up against her thin neck.
Then Juliet said, ‘dear Tybalt, don’t sin,
or my dear father’s poor heart you will wreck.’

Then out of fear, Romeo mustered strength,
and parried the strike of Tybalt’s at length.

But Tybalt’s sword on Romeo was fast.
‘please don’t’ Juliet was quite quick to say.
She was too late as Tybalt struck at last,
Romeo quickly got out of the way.

Juliet dived and held Romeo tight,
and soft, sweet tears did she begin to cry.
Tybalt did pause at such a sweet sight,
and all was still on that night in July.

Suddenly parents and friends did appear,
and though they hated each other so strong,
at the sight of Juliet’s sweet tear,
realized that they could have gotten along.

With part of her dress did Juliet shut
off Romeo’s blood flow from his deep cut.

Then Capulet did say, ‘we must let them be.’
Juliet smiled as Romeo stirred.
‘We’ll be married soon!’ she said happily.
Then Montague said, ‘I give that my word.’

Romeo woke surrounded by people,
enemies and friends and lovers around.
Glad he wasn’t dead under the steeple,
but quite confused by the sight that he found.

Tybalt was talking with Romeo’s friends,
and Juliet talked sweet with his mother.
Both the two fathers were making amends,
they all got along with one another.

The two lovers got married hereafter,
and the only sound heard was their laughter.
