Once Upon a Midnight Sorrow

Once upon a midnight sorrow,
glaring at the moonlit shadows
creeping up the hemlock trees.
Retreat into your pillowcase so they can't hear you scream.
Reliving the nightmares that have become real.
Knowing they're watching you,
those evil creatures from your dreams.
The unicorns you used to believe in have no place here.
They would only perish.
Dressed in gold, scissors in hand, the monsters stroll toward you.
You close your eyes and say a prayer,
because tonight will be your last.
