One too Far

When the police phoned I thought you had died.
I almost broke down.
I was worried all night until mom came home.
She said she had phoned them to see what she could do about you.
You won’t listen to us.
We can’t even keep you in the house.
Well I’ve given up on you.
To me you’re dead.
I found out that one night you went after mom and dad had to step in.
You hit him.
You pushed him one too far.
So he hit back.
Look what you’ve done.
Don’t you see?
I can’t even look at you with the same eyes.
I only see the hatred there when I look in the mirror.
I tried; really I did, to forgive you, to see you different.
But I can’t.
