He hit her

That distant memory that I can't forget
Shivers run down my spine
A cold sensation flows through my veins
Remembering how much pain that's been seen
With my dark brown eyes

Like blood dripping from a cut
What I saw was more than enough
So young to see too much
That I was never suppose to know
It was true all along
I knew it

Creeping out from the covers
I saw him and her
Angry, upset looks were upon their faces
He hit her
He hit her
I felt myself shake
Hidden under the blankets
The only thing to shield me from the war
The only thing to keep me safe
From the war flashing before my very eyes

All of the horrible cries heard by young ears
Listening to the yelling with nobody to wipe away my tears
All alone
Backed into a corner with my fears
Not a smile is spread across my lips
Because I saw what no kid deserves to see

Returning to a peaceful slumber
Treasure the time you have asleep
Forget your worries
It's over now
For now at least
