The Protection of Glass

Three
Glass Protection

Room of glass, there's no privacy
All I can see around me
Mud, cold soft mud,
And swiftly shifting sands
All have welcomed wilted souls
Into their neverending embrace
Turned into less than ghouls
Always to stay
Inside this cage

Outside this cage
Prowling a barbarian
Strong strong fence
Safe, but caged in
Should I be beholden then?

Room of mirrors, all one-way
I can see out if that's something to say
Viewing heartsick underdogs
All on their way to their own place
Going home to finish dying inside
Feeling sorry for their little worlds
There's no one to protect them from their only enemies
Their face is the skeleton in the mirror

And so they die in a little house of misery
Leaving all of life's unexplained mysteries
For the others who still think
But there are none within
Not even the children
And no one knows when
Or who will be their friend in need

All around me now are raging faces
Saying there's an ocean of different ways
That I broke all of their rules
So you don't have to follow the rules I do
What makes you so different
Are you trying to be cool
You're gonna break your neck just driving to school
I feel like I admire that but don't know why I do

When the mud and the walls and the mirrors are gone
I guess I get to be like the rest and keep moving on
Swimming for the waterfall at the end of the world
Where everyone goes over the edge
They finally see
And everyone screams
And it's the end of the world at last
Except for me it's already long past
