House of Lies

She begs him to stay
As he brings tears
The little one cries
The oldest one fears
This home isn't very sweet
I don't think it ever was
She stays up waiting
He comes home with a buzz

The oldest asks if things are okay
The little one, innocent
Doesn't know what to say
Love is in the air?
More like affairs
She was pretty clueless
Up until this year

As he walks in one morning
From being out all night
One simple question
Quickly turns into a fight

The little one, scared
Grabs a teddy bear
Hugging and squeezing
Trying to forget the hate that is there
The oldest just listens
With a blank stare
Wishing for it to stop
Quickly turns on the stereo
For music to blare

That night, she wonders why
"Why did he betray me?"
She says to herself
As she starts to cry

He leaves with no word to the kids
Not even a goodbye
Ashamed at what he did
He slams the door
And off he drives

This home isn't very sweet
You see, it never was
Sometimes that fairy tale wedding
Doesn't come with love
