Green and White Stripes

Hazel-green eyes stand out against a pale, red face,
Streaked with Tears
Of worry and pain and hope.
They’ve seen similar before
And can’t stand to see it again,
But will because they have to be there
To help the others through.

Hard days,
Cold and bitter,
Sleepless and worried,
The Tears are hidden when
Around the one in pain.

Hazel-green eyes,
Filled with pain and hope,
Meet the blue eyes,
Frantic with worry,
And they pray everything will be
Okay
And the Tears won’t fall any more.

Hazel-green eyes in a pale face,
Have seen it before,
Can’t believe it is happening again.
They stay glued to the book,
Never looking up
Since it hurts too much to see
Everyone in pain.

Hazel-green eyes,
Tired and worried,
Hungry and hopeful,
Drive back and forth
Just to be with the one they love
Who is in pain.

Hazel-green eyes,
Mixed with brown and
Gray and blue,
Stay fixed on the clock,
Waiting and waiting,
Feeling nauseous and sick,
It can’t be happening again,
And yet it is.
