One Last Jump

Perched on the hood of her car
Cross-legged she sits
Star-gazing.
An absence of mass beside her
It doesn’t feel right
It seems so

Empty.

She feels empty.
A lone tear
Rolling down her cheek
Splashing the car hood
Where he had lain down with her
To watch the night pass them by
Together.
Where he should be lying
Instead of at the bottom of a dirt hole,
Six feet under.
She slides off slowly
Dabbing her eyes dry
Standing at the edge
Knowing he would not want her to do this
Knowing she can’t bear his absence
Knowing only what her heart wants:
To be with him until the end of time.

Cool air whips her face in her descent.
Together again at last.
