Lock and Key

Unspoken words under lock and key,
Hidden from the world so that you can't see,
The oceans between us, a childhood's end,
Broken out of time that can never mend

The hourglass sand cascades onwards,
A torrent of secrets now chained and barred,
Of changing feelings, an endless debate,
Emotions in turmoil I tried to negate

Our hands are unwound at the fork in the road,
The saddest rendezvous yet nobody knows,
The channel of support, my very lifeline,
My blatant affection and yet you are blind

One little china doll all wrapped up in silk,
Among tissues and pillows and one feather quilt,
Her icy cold life, the expressionless face,
Chips and scratches unfixed by solace

Creatures pace restlessly inside their cage,
Rattling the bars to be rid of the shade,
The cage clams up, curtains are drawn,
A façade of normalcy all just a con

The water is rising and breaking the dam,
A platonic connection now revealed as a sham,
An enormous triumph, or a bigger mistake,
Abandoned destruction left in its wake

Time runs freely as the bolts slide away,
Decoding the cipher to end the affray,
Overflowing the truth, ending the traps,
Revealing everything kept tight under wraps

I'm saying goodbye and this is for good,
To end what I started and do what I should,
Not right for you, and wouldn't want me,
And who'll never know of my last apology
