Voices obeyed

Scared in my own home,
Of what awaits outside my mind,
Behind the door; the voices,
People cruel, creatures kind,
For years, outside the box,
Locked in my own private cell,
If I knew what normal was,
Would my paradise become my hell?

Instructions from characters,
Room-mates of a sort,
Trampeding noise about the hall,
Owning but every thought.
Obedience is expected,
So voices are obeyed,
Say no to my ministers,
What will happen; I'm afraid.
