Recollections

It's been a while since I last heard your voice
No way to bring the sound to mind.
Letting go is facing the choice
Of remembrance and dwelling,
Forgiving, forgetting,
Drowning out the sounds of the endless whispers in my head
Telling me to hold on.

Being here is a new sensation to me
Feeling paralyzed at mind, entrapped in body and soul,
Never knowing if you realized what could truly be.
Standing here all alone
Broken, undone,
Daydreaming about what could have been,
Consuming my thoughts and devotion.

The mystery of it all drives me insane
Mapping out the different paths we could have taken
With endless summer nights and so much to gain
A life worth living, days worth remembering
So delicate, so fragile,
Wondering what could have been
Had my countless dreams been made animate.

We'll never know what could have been.
