Smiles And Regrets

When fights didn’t matter,
And hearts couldn’t shatter,
We were all at peace.
Look at us now,
Left to drown,
In the tears we never wanted to weep.

Back in the day,
When we’d laugh it all away,
No one ever got hurt.
And no wounds were ever cut,
As we ran through the mud,
Running towards the bright lights.

Now the scars never fade,
And life’s one great charade,
Through the empty streets of the dead.
We try to march on,
To hold up and be strong,
But we break at every word that’s said.

Is this what life can do?
Turn best friends against you?
Make you wish you’d never been born.
Turn to the razorblade,
Severe the body you hate,
Pain is the vaccination for endless scorn.

Each and every day,
It won’t go away,
You don’t see what you did wrong.
You’re life is a mess,
You’re now a wreck,
Singing your most hated song.

You can’t keep up,
Blood pouring from cuts,
It’s impossible to ever go to sleep.
Life seems to suck,
You know you’ve had enough,
The winter of unbearable heat.

Slit open your throat,
Make you splutter and choke,
Before lying stone dead in the jet black hearse.
You’ve given in,
To a common sin,
Welcome to the Universe.
