Open Handed

The enemy came with a smile
And cut our hands off
Persuading us to forgive
With promises of prosperity
There is a world underneath this asphalt
That we have all forgotten and attemped to smother
With a modern world floored with black tar
We have gained so much from our greed
Polluted air and disease
But there is a world waiting with open arms
So much potential we have imprisoned
Ever ready to forgive
Despite our vulgar crimes against her
She waits for her chance
To grow stronger and heal us
With open lungs yearning to clean the air
And open hands waiting to feed
Yet with arrogance we chop them away
Choke off her air supply
She falls asleep forever
And we shortly follow
