Close Your Eyes With Me

Tracing a necklace for her
with your fingernails
on her collarbones.

You shower her with happy little breaths
though you know she'll be gone
once morning comes breaking in like a wave.

She's gone, leaving a little dotted line
behind her, to a little colored circle
inside a little colored funny shape.

You're looking through the pictures you took -
it was raining, her eyes were closed
and she was smiling fit to split your fragile heart.

The world looks better that way,
she told you. Come close your eyes with me,
she said to you. And you obliged.

And outside, it was raining, and everything
was drowning in the deluge. The garden was
turning to mud, floating away, so far away.

She turned your face away from the window.
It has to come down, love.
The clouds are happy because they have cried.
