What Happened To The Photograph Your Boyfriend Took (An Hourglass Poem)

I’m staring at this picture in my hands, with many friends, but your face is all I see
The picture used to be so beautiful to me, but now the colors hurt my eyes
You took away my pride when you left, and you damaged a beautiful thing
The photo which I used to love, seems to have lost its meaning
And there is nothing you can do or say to redeem
What you went and took away, for this
Was all I had, from time to time
To look and see you smile
When you weren’t there
And now that you
Are gone again
I wonder too
Why I had
Come to
Love
You
Love
Is all
That I
Had then
But now that
You have left for good
I have to come to an agreement
A proclamation with myself, that you
Of all the people I love, will never be allowed
To touch, because, though I wish it, I know in my heart
You don’t love me, and I don’t love you, so I leave our photograph
Hidden between these pages for as long as it takes to heal the cuts and
I shall not look to your face, or even to your smile, for as long as needs to be
And maybe that way, you will find your place, and I will find mine too, where we
And we together, can live as life will have us, apart and forever remembered in love
