The Ties That Bind (a sonnet for my English class)
This ring's a circle of love eternal,
An end to its band can never be seen;
It surrounds the wearer with instinct maternal,
And shines with a light that never has been.
I release the burden clenching my heart,
And stand here before you awaiting love;
Great secreats and troubles I thee impart,
Though they're as lasting as the stars above.
Tonight we stand to declare this beauty;
Therefore realise this: my life is you.
Embrace and uphold and sacred duty;
Trust me and know that we'll never be through.
No greater token of my love you'll find,
Than this, our great marriage, the ties that bind.
An end to its band can never be seen;
It surrounds the wearer with instinct maternal,
And shines with a light that never has been.
I release the burden clenching my heart,
And stand here before you awaiting love;
Great secreats and troubles I thee impart,
Though they're as lasting as the stars above.
Tonight we stand to declare this beauty;
Therefore realise this: my life is you.
Embrace and uphold and sacred duty;
Trust me and know that we'll never be through.
No greater token of my love you'll find,
Than this, our great marriage, the ties that bind.
