Love's Poem

The words flow out of our close mouths,
Soft
And sweet
And insecure,
Fighting unseen barriers which crumble
Beneath broken rainbows.
God knows
No one knows
What's happened here tonight,
What's set our hearts thumping so fast,
What's pulled our fear out from the past
What's made those words come out at last,
And Love's Poem's just begun.

So say the words.
Just let them go.
Past the carbon air and breathy kisses
They work and they strain
But soon they get through
And we both find out what no one knew:
What's in our souls. But things still hide,
And we still can't find
My heart inside
Its cage of thorns,
So pull it out and save it from
The demons that it's never faced,
The demons which have never graced
Its marred surface,
The skin hurt from the thorns
And scorns
and every day, that heart still mourns
The loss of every chance
To give Love's Poem its first time through.

So every day, here's how it will go.
From start to finish,
I will try,
And I will push away the loneliness,
And I will learn to be happy
For all whom I know,
For all my rules I've started bending,
The letters I regret not sending,
The confusion which my heart is lending.
Because Love's Poem is never-ending,
And I will make it through.
