The Tide.

It was me and you on the sand
and the neon stars on a black sky.
The high tide washed away our former selves
and with it, the water took away all the pain.
And all the loneliness, the loneliness we felt.
It took away our hurtful memories and they were submerged under water.
Until it was just me and you.

And our hands were
intertwined as we stepped on sea shells that glittered in our eyes.
Then suddenly the sky fell down on us
and like our memories, our memories, we were washed away.
It was just me and you
and a thousand sparkling sea shells, when suddenly I woke up.

Hastened breaths and gentle caresses, sprawled on white sheets.
The morning sun shined through our window
and the room turned ethereal and reflected all of our shadows.
Tiny beads strung through your hair and they clicked to the sound
of our hearts beating together.
Beating like drums on that cold sand.
And our footprints told a story, a fairytale,
of a vicious and unruly tide.
