So Easily Lost
What comes with such ease
Is inevitably the first to go,
What we expect
Is never sustained,
But for what we pray
There is always hope.
If we are comfortable
We are inevitably the first to fall,
And our boasting
Will have lost us the support we need;
It is simple modesty
Which keeps good friends close.
If we are complacent
The things will inevitably fall;
All but our regret
Will be gone,
That and our guilt
Which will last forever more.

There is always hope.
