If

If the satellite fell from the sky,
And the stars were all drowned in the sea;
The galaxy shattered and planets adrift
On the chaos, torn apart at the seams;

If the world, set alight, by a flickering match,
If the earth, raw with death, began to bleed;
If all lungs filled with ash, and the sun collapsed,
And if all that is love was sucked into a pit
At the dark at the heart of the earth,
Or was lost in a blaze of the clashing of light,
If the soul, at the whole, sawn in half;

If my nerves, scarred and burned, could not feel,
And all eyes, silver-blind, ceased to see;
If all that is life crumbled into the dark
Would you still remember me?
