The Girl We See

She is the girl surrounded by friends,
Laughing and smiling without a care in the world.
The girl who excels in school,
And dominates on the field.
All the girls want to be her,
All the guys want to date her,
But is she really the girl we all see?
The one who seems so headstrong and brave?
The answer is no.
She cries on the inside,
She is afraid to go home,
Where she knows her parents wait to beat her.
They tell her she is not good enough,
As purple flowers bloom upon her pale body,
Expressing her pain on the outside as well.
She is the girl who acts like nothing’s wrong,
When inside,
She’s fighting an ugly battle of depression.
