Behind These Eyes

They say when you look into a person’s eyes,
You can see into their soul,
But sometimes, doing so,
Can create an awful toll.

For can you really see into my eyes?
Look past the silent rain,
To see all I feel,
Is a never-ending pain?

Sure, I laugh and smile,
But can’t you see it’s all for show?
Hiding the pain,
So no one will really know.

The truth that is,
The road of life is never easy to travel,
But when we cannot handle it,
Is when we begin to unravel.

Slowly unwinding,
Coming apart,
If you want to be the one to fix it,
Now’s the time to start.

Then when you look behind these eyes,
You won’t see my pain,
But a truly happy girl,
Whose heart you will attain.
