Anna and her Dolly

Anna was a lonely girl
In her room she stayed
Staring out her window
Doing nothing while others played

No one really liked her
She can't understand why
They would always hurt her feelings
She tried hard not to cry

Dolly was her only friend
Glass, yes she was
Even though she couldn't talk
Dolly gave her love

When Anna was feeling sad
Dolly, always there
Would let her hug and hold onto her
And let her brush her hair

One day Anna told Dolly
"I want to leave this place
I can't stand the people
And the torment I face"

Anna kept on talking
Knowing Dolly would listen
But, this time she didn't
She did something different

"Anna, don't cry
Everything's okay
Don't worry, you won't be here for long
I promise we'll get away"

Anna sat there, shocked
She was at a lost for words
Happiness and surprise
Washed over her

"Oh, Dolly! you spoke
How I've wished for you to talk
It gets so lonely without another voice
That doesn't always mock"

Dolly turned her head
Another surprise, indeed
But what was soon to come..
Children shouldn't see

Dolly grabbed the brush
That Anna was using
And told her they'll always be together
Anna, just smiled
For the last time ever

Dolly knocked her out
With that often used brush
Dolly then grabbed a needle
And injected her with stuff

Days passed
As the transformation came into place
When Anna awoke
She wasn't the same

Neither was Dolly
No longer was she a toy
She was a little girl
Like Anna used to be
Her face brightened with joy

Anna couldn't speak
All she could do was stare
Dolly smiled grimly
And started to brush her hair

"We'll be together, but not forever
I apologise for this
But, you were the only one
That I could do this with"

"I'll take care of you
Just like you did with me
But only for a little while
Soon I have to leave"

"I know I said I'll always be here
I'm so sorry, please forgive me
But now that I'm a girl
There are places I'd like to see"

A week went by
Dolly wasn't there
Anna had no one to hold her or listen to
No one to brush her hair

She knew she would never be
A little girl again
She was so afraid
She didn't understand

How did this happen?
She pondered to herself
Will I ever see Dolly again?
Will I always be by myself?

I guess, when you think
The only one that cares
Will always be there
You might want to think again
For you can always end up alone
Just like Anna did
