"You Can Trust Me," I lied

A careful smile plays on your lips
"Is everything okay now? Have you regained control?"
The unspoken words are hanging in the air,
as I run my fingers through my hair
"No, I'm not okay," I want to yell
"I've never been anything, I've only been a shell"

But despite the hurt in my eyes,
you just believe the lies
slipping past my shivering lips
"Things have changed, I'm not like I used to be"

And the careful smile spreads now confident across your face,
as your fingers through mine lace.
One more game to play,
a smile just for show.
And you will never know.
