The Tragic Tale of Adiana and Her Broken Heart
Sometimes I wish I were a little kid again, skinned knees are easier to fix than broken hearts. -Anonymous
there lived a girl
of seven years
named Adiana
with beautiful golden hair
to the middle of her back
always worn with a shiny ribbon
to match her flowery dress
two dimples adorned her rosy cheeks
whether smiling or not
she had bright blue eyes
and the softest pink lips
freckles speckled the apples of her cheeks
in the short, hot, summer months
her giggle could bring a lighthearted smile
to even the grumpiest of old men
nothing was able to take her exuberance away
out of eleven elder siblings
she was the closest to her mother
during the day they baked cookies,
mended socks,
and read books together
at night, before bed
her mother always brushed her long golden hair
and tied a blue ribbon to match her blue nightie
they were inseparable
wherever Adiana's mother went
Adiana was following not far behind
and usually whenever her mother had a cold
she did too
this time would differ
Adiana's mother caught a cold one spring
that Adiana didn't receive
try her hardest,
she could not catch what her mother had
this cold was different
this cold would not go away
without taking something with it
that something, being
her mother's life
no ribbon adorned her now dingy hair
her dimples were barely noticeable
her lips nearly matched her pale complexion
and her giggle was nowhere to be found
a week passed after burying her mother.
before going home from school one afternoon
she emptied out her desk completely
that night, before bed
her sisters asked to brush her hair
to which she replied with a smile
"It's okay, mother will do it tonight."
they took her innocent remark as grieving.
the sisters woke the next morning to find Adiana in bed
her lips were blue
and her skin was cold
her hair was brushed,
tied with a shiny blue ribbon
no one said for sure
what caused
the unexpected passing
of this healthy seven year old girl.
but everyone knew
her heart was broken.
and could not be mended.
God can heal a broken heart, but He has to have all the pieces. -Anonymous
