Stepping Out Of The Skin

Fist clenched
Something's stirring inside
'Shouldn't feel this way' they assure
But the fist just tightens
But why is the fist clenched?
Let's review.

Step out of the skin.
Take a look.

You hear silent whispers in your head
Convince yourself you're the subject of their giggles

You lurk in the dark illuminated by a cyber glow
Checking for anything suspicious

You listen to little nothings and the ears prick
How can you be sure they're just little nothings?

Step out of the skin.
Take a look.

You don't trust anyone
No matter the level of their promises
You still don't believe it
It's not enough to soothe the skittering inside.

You're told not to worry yourself about it
Why should you care?
But you still do.
It still makes the fist clench when you think about it.

Fist still clenched
It needn't be
But you see things through the window behind
Knowing it's not for you
And it makes the fist clench.

But it shouldn't.

Why are you like this?

Well.

I'm stepping out of the skin.
I'm taking a look.

A/N: I'm not much of a poet and never considered myself to be so. I just had something to get off my chest is all.
