The Race

I opened my eyes to another morning of new beginnings

To a world losing that is losing more than it is winning

But as the sun shines your way, I know I'm still in the race

To win the prize and to finally see you face to face

You crack the shutters to begin the competition, to light up the crowd

I try to call you but it seems as if everybody's screaming too loud

But I'm up to the challenge and I know I'll never give up

I've been chasing you from the beginning and it would be worthless if suddenly I just stop

I see you from a distance, you shine as if you're the brightest star

I try to reach for you but you seem so far

Too far out of my league, I don't think I can even get you here

Beside me so that you can wash away my fears

So as I turn to see you standing there like a nobel prize,

The highest achievement, the best honor in about anyone's eyes,

I try to think about what might happen, what we can be

If there's more to life, what more we can see

So as these obstacles try to push me away from the finish line,

I try to tell myself that I'm almost there and that it'll all be fine

I tell myself that again and again but to my ears it's all a lie

But I don't really care, I'm on a high

I took too much of you in and somehow it's getting harder to breathe

My body starts to numb, I can't feel a thing from my head to my feet

Then I stumble and I was quite sure that I would lose

But in this case, losing was not an option to choose

So I got back up and went on with the race

I reached the finish line and ended up with the second place

And so I looked around and tried to see where you were

But my heart shattered because when I finally found you, you were with her...
