A Battle Not Won

I remember the feel of my surfboard
And my hand grazed a rock
The sea burned my eyes
I could no longer see the dock

Another wave pushed me further down
And now, I am sure I will drown

So now I'm tossed and turned by the ocean's black tide
No one to hold or see me while I cried

I fought for my last breath
But it escaped my lips
My eyes closed slowly
And the earth quickly tips

Now I'm laying on the bottom
And I can see the sun
But this time, please remember
It was a battle not won.
