A Dream

Last night I had a dream
A dream where I had to be
An angel of death on earth and sea
After the charge, I followed intent
On laying down law, in this case death
But as I saw who it was
I couldn't kill
So I kissed instead, and tossed aside
The heavenly scythe of final death
And felt the heat of lover's breath
Felt the teeth and gave bite, too
And loved the hair and skin and flesh
And would have turned away from light
But for the infernal sound of waking might
My alarm clock, chasing away night.
