Night's Sonnet

In slumber's grasp I touch Luna's bright light,
Fingers brushing through the shimmering dust.
For this glitter bright the lonely dark lusts
To scatter across the tapestry of night
As a caged bird longs to spread wings in flight.
A love lacking only of bundobust,
But pure just the same, stronger than wind's gust.
A match for tempest's hate, but without spite.
Though the sun's rays veils this love from our eye,
Aphrodite's gift remains just as strong,
For the stars midnight dark unceasingly yearns,
As for midnight dark the sparkling stars sigh.
This story that inspires muse's songs,
Nocturnal love sempiternally burns.
