Our Night

The night is quiet,
The dark air still.
My heartbeat skips,
As you lead me up the steps.
We stand in silence,
Not needing words.
You pull me into your embrace,
Your arms my shackles,
Holding me close.
We are still,
Not needing anything but each other.
I look up at you,
Your face half-hidden in the light.
Your steady gaze meets my own,
And my unstable heart,
Beats faster than hummingbird wings.
You lean in closer,
Confident yet unsure.
Your lips caress mine,
Soft and smooth.
My knees seem to melt,
But your arms support me,
Keeping me from falling,
Yet at the same time,
Keeping me from floating away.
You pause and look up,
Wondering if that blissful moment,
Was a mistake,
But your fears are unnecessary,
For I pull you toward me again,
And as we are caught in time,
Our heartbeats drone out the silence.
