Heroes of Old

Remember the ages of long ago
Ballads of war heroes and the places they go
Sonnets of princes, and the lovers they prize
The princess so fair, beauty divine
Kingdoms and dragons and knights so bold
Where have they gone, those heroes of old?
Taken captive by society
Held in the chains of iniquity
Long ago the strong would save
Again and again, the strong, they gave
But now, the strong only take what they please
Until the weak die in the breeze
Of a harsh winter's folly
While the rich sit and laugh, so warm and so jolly
The knights of legend and lore
Would fain cry at the sight of the shores
Of the great kingdoms past
That could not last
Learn from these heroes of yore
Give not for yourself, but for those who need more.
