Wondering How?

Wondering How

They Always Said She'd Break.

Now they wonder,
How did this happen,
Why did they treat her like that,
Would she forgive them?

She sits alone,
Waiting for the Doctor,
Wondering when he will call.

Wondering How?

She lays in the bed,
Uncomfortable,
She never liked hospitals,
Now She's stuck in one.

Wondering How?

Her family is here,
Her Daddy has glossy eyes,
Twice She’s seem him cry,
Both when his parents died.

Wondering How?

What was so wrong,
As to make the STRONGest man she knew,
Cry.

Wondering How?

Was She broken?
Could they fix her if she was?
Or was She broken beyond repair?

Wondering How?

With sad faces,
One by one,
Her family hugs her,
Leaving with tear stained faces.

Wondering How?

All filing out,
Until only one is left.

Her best friend.
Who never cried.
Not when he broke his are in baseball.
Not when he fractured his hand playing football.
Not when his parents separated.
So why was he crying now?

Was she dieing?
She didn’t think so,
She felt just fine.
A little tired and thirsty.
But fine.

Wondering How?

With one swift motion
He was beside Her
Taking Her hand in his
He sighed and said:

“I promise you everything will work out perfectly.”

Kissing Her forehead
Dropping Her hand
He walked out of the room
Tears falling.

Wondering How?

Finally after listening
To the murmur of the television
For what seemed like forever
The doctor came.

He said She’d have to stay.
Not long,
Just a few days.
He wanted to make sure She was alright
Before letting Her go.

Wondering How?

Silently Her family and best friend come back into the room.
Her best friend walks to her side and keels
Taking Her hand once more into his
Her Daddy nods to the Doctor.

Wondering How?

Not even seconds
After the words left the Doctors mouth
Her world came crashing down.

Now She is left:

Wondering How?

A little bit later
She starts to realize
God only gives us things
He knows we can handle.

What doesn’t kill us
Only makes us stronger.

They always said She’d break.
They wanted her to break.
They tried so hard.

Girls getting up from lunch tables when She came to sit.
Girls locking Her in a bathroom.
Boys tripping Her in the hallway.
Boys picking on Her because She could play baseball.

She knew what they were doing.
She wouldn’t let them.
She left.

Now they’re left

Wondering How?
They could be so mean to her.

Wondering How?

Now
She’s stronger than them.
A better person.

Now
She lives each day to the fullest.
Puts kindness into everything She does.

Wondering How?

Not because they broke Her,
No. Because they didn’t.

Wondering How?

She is who She is today
Because of the Four
Little Words
Her Doctor spoke that day.

She sits and writes.
Wanting people to know.
It’s not a curse.
It’s just a bump in the road.

Not Wondering How: Instead,
She sits here and writes this,
Knowing Now.

Since the description of this poem is way to long to fit the the description box I put it here at the end.

This poem, may not rhyme.
It may not even be that good of a poem.
But it tells a story.

A story I want people to know.
How even though people in the world can be cruel, even though life can throw you an unexpected curve ball, even though nothing and nobody is perfect.
Never take what you have for granted.

Questions about the poem, just ask me!
