Paradox

I remember you
On a cold night
As being the warmest
Sight in the room

We laugh and your smile
Takes me
And by your hand I take you
To share our breath,
Something difficult to explain.

An idiot's complacency
I release you
My haunting regret
The war I should have fought

But a scar remains
For a bittersweet feeling
The joy to keep you
And the loss until then.
