Bloodstained Shards

Once upon a night so black
A young boy looks into the stars
So far away, they hold no hope
They only make him more aware
Of the void inside him

How his chest seems to crush his numb heart
Leaving shattered pieces of nothing
Through this confusion, he feels only emptiness
He wonders if this is what it’s like to die

He holds the silver glint up in the moonlight
Whispers softly “I don’t know why”
Then etches slow into his skin
The pictures of what he never knew

Memories he wishes he had
What he dreams of late at night
He stares at these images as his vision fades
A smile on his face as he gives up the fight…

Once upon a night so deep
A young girl looked through her box of dreams
She found it empty but for shards
Of a long-since broken mirror…

She glimpsed her face in them and saw
The ghost of what she really was -
Ghetto girl that no one knew
Becoming what she had been through

Broken girl she tried to hide
All the pain she held inside
With mirrored blade, like lightning sharp
She engraved the memories into her arms

Too much hate she can’t undo
Damage done she cant forgive
Sick of being half-alive
She sketched in blood what she cant forget…

The faded white lines that we all hide
Fragments of emotion that cut us deep inside
Did you really think this was for attention?
Maybe you’ll know that this is your fault

Though a story of your hate is reflected in each one
You’ll never see these scars
Until everyone is gone
Leaving only bloodstained shards
You’ll never see these scars
