Here's to the Children of the Night

Here's to the children of the night
to those who learned humility and shame
before their first year was up
to the ones who protected the earth
and carried out her needs

To the families that were ripped apart
but continued strong
to the men
the women
the children who spent days
weeks
years
alone in sickening dark solitude

To those burned at the stake
for their 'sin' and 'ungodly crimes'
committed for the harm and
destruction of man
to those beheaded
abused
neglected

To the ones who ran
and struck back
striking fear into the ignorant
and innocent hearts
making them fear
despise
mistrust
the dark

To those who have risen and
become important figure heads
in our lowly solemn world
to those who stick to
the ways of old
and refuse to give up
their heritage
to fit in with with the rest
of the world

To the ones that have lasted
to the ones that will stay
to the ones that we see every day
keep strong my children
for the day shall come
and we'll rule in our time
and in kingdom come
