Road to Life
Walking on a road to nowhere with you.
The road started to fade.
I look over to you.
You start to fade.
I reach for you.
You move farther away.
I look down to see
There’s no more road.
You keep going.
I stop completely.
I bring my hands to my face
To hide the follow of tears.
I peek through my fingers
To see the last of you.
It was the end.
I start to walk back to the beginning
To do it all again.
Midway, I stop to ponder
What if I follow?
I shake my head
As if to stop the voices.
The voices told me to walk back
I rebelled.
I turn and run away
From the orders, the hypnotist.
I ran after life
To catch up with you.
I could finally do it.
I could finally live.
The road started to fade.
I look over to you.
You start to fade.
I reach for you.
You move farther away.
I look down to see
There’s no more road.
You keep going.
I stop completely.
