Reflection

When I stare at the reflection
And it stares back at me,
I try to look deep inside
To find a part of me.

When I stare at the reflection
I see a huge bright smile,
No teeth show at all,
But the tongue sticks out a while.

When I stare at the reflection
Bright blue eyes full of mystery
Are hidden behind brown locks,
Shying away from me.

When I stare at my reflection
I smirk and tip my hat.
I watch as the image facing me
Does the same thing back.

When I stare at the reflection
I can see staring back is pride,
But no matter how hard I search,
I can never see what's inside.

When I stare at my reflection
I daresay no one else
Knows who I am inside
Better than me myself.

When I stare at my reflection now
I know appearance matters not,
And for those who love us regardless,
We should treasure while we've got.

And when my reflection fades
In the fog of the misty night,
I hope someone else can find me
As of myself I lose sight.

My reflection is no longer visible,
But in the dim light I can see,
I've been rescued by a silhouette,
Who dares to see through me.

And as the light grows brighter,
And my soul is what can be seen,
Appearance is no longer important,
So what do reflections matter to me?
