The Pathway to Anywhere

These days a narrow winding road
a paved trail into the unimaginable future
leading on, almost without purpose
as we set afoot on this painful journey
words spoken in our ears
as our blistered feet take those individual steps
towards a destination still left unclear

The leaves around churning and shivering
dancing with the cool fall breeze
it blows through our hair with whispers all around
as those rainbow waves crash against the shore
made only as a pathway to anywhere

Leaves all around fall gracefully to the ground
like the tears sliding down from the heavens
a thick green moss now grows tirelessly
in the cold, dark underbrush
thirsting for sunlight as it reaches towards the sky
every animated reaction born into this world

Our hearts beat as one
to the shallow setting sun
with a subtle scent of eternal magnificence
the roaring colors of the sky
in battle with the furious fluttering leaves
as all colors fade from view

Our path now lit by sparkling lights overhead
the blazing moonlight staring down upon us
the world all speaks in unison
as we travel on our endless journey
