Red Ribbons And Black Holes

.your only mistake was lifting me up to cloud 9

i.
you filled in the gapes of my fingers,
explained why stars had to fall at some point,
and showed me what makes flowers bloom in the spring.
[i wish i would have known how good you were at telling tales]

ii.
i listened while you pondered life, and banged doldrums in my ears.
keeping a beat was never my strong suit, but you certainly tried to show me.
i told you reasons i could never think like the stars,
and showed you how black holes work.
[they suck up everything around them, even light]

iii.
It doesn't seem fair does it?

iiii.
we roamed back roads at night telling streetlights why they made the stars jealous,
and got signs to give us directions that told us everything except where we were going.
we would lay out in fields and wonder why flowers died,
And what made fingers laced with red ribbons fade to black.
[well, now we know]

.my only mistake was letting you lift me all the way up here
[thin air is the hardest to digest]
