Make a Wish

I remember,
hot summer days and damp spring nights
lying on our backs in the green, green grass;
watching.
Stars come from red clouds and setting Suns,
firefly couples dancing ballet around torches.
I remember.
Many years ago,
I would twirl barefoot on cement.
artificial rain pouring
onto flushed faces and sweating skin.
I remember dandelions,
poking their feathery heads through the cracks
I remember picking
their fragile green stems,
holding them to my face, eyes squeezed shut
Inhaling…
hot summer days
damp spring nights
marshmallows over fires
flowers tickling our noses
fireflies dancing.
Exhaling,
I wish…
that these days would never end.
