I Used to Be

I used to play with all the guys.
I used to get dirty in the mud.
I used to not care about what I wore.
I used to think that no one did hate crimes.
I used to think that no one didn't like people for their race, gender or opinions.

That was how I used to be.
Now I know better.

I still hang with the guys,
Just not as much.
They consider me weaker.
Don't they remember,
When we used to build forts?
I do get dirty,
But it's not the same.
I will wash off right away,
So people won't hate me.
I do care,
About what I wear.
It's funny that,
I never did before.
Now I know,
The key to being liked at my school.
You are,
What you wear.
Hate crimes,
Gah. They're so old.
I thought people,
Would never do that.
Why would you want to?
And why would,
You shun a person,
Because of how they looked, their opinions or what they are.
Why would you?

I used to be....
