Caged/Free

A heart can openly love
A smile can bring light
A tear can shatter dreams
A trial can end in a fight

As strong as we are
As weak as we may be
As far as we walk
Although never truly free

Caged like an animal
Held in by laws rules and dreams
When life progresses only
To fall apart at the seams

Ye though we cannot hide from life
Nor can we run away
It always finds us
Some how! Some day!

We scream as the blood pours
Drenching the walls and the floor
Where a caged broken heart
Beats no more

Perhaps if ever
Another heart was given
Perhaps for another chance
Life'd be worth living

To never see the tears
That have been cried every night
Oh God! The horror!
Why such a sight?

As this caged
No longer beats
The surrounding hearts
Sift through memories

Of happy smiles
And laughs and screams
Of a broken heart's
Broken dreams

Caged by so much pain
Freed by a destroyed heart
Some where it was whole
Must have been at start

A name now unknown
A heart now scarred
A friend who
By time was brutally marred

A life gone by
Another day to pass
Another heart broken
Thes story so fast

How many hearts
Have been so broken
How many girls
So near the end

How many have counted
Each day gone by
Looking, asking, begging
For just a way to die

But knowing one heart
That could take no more pain
A heart so close
Just a brutally slain

That it had past that point
And was only undead
Numb even when
It should be alive, feeling instead

So living for the next day
To say "Oh tomorrow"
So now here in life
Caged joy over comes free sorrow
