A mask

You said there was no embarrassment you couldn’t share, yet you wore a mask.
You said there was no shame that could take your pride away, yet you wore a mask.
You said that what was on your mind was heard by all, yet you wore a mask.
You told me nothing would hide your life, and yet, you wore a mask.
You stood before me…as I to you know, there is no mask to fit me, and yet, you wore a mask.
And even if every emotion is shown and every word is heard,
On that very day you said it all, you wore a mask that hid your beauty away from the world
