The Dark and The Light

Running I just keep running through the trees in the dark
Falling and bleeding with every broken word
Dying a little more the farther I got from you
And the farther I got the less I was of myself
Confused and yet not so alone

Damask and dark, lost I just kept running
Farther and farther from the place I need to be
But in that dark I found a light
A light which held heaven
God-sent to take me home

All those wasted years
Had it been days?
Had it been months?
Had it been years?
Wasted, trying to find the angel that never left

Ascending to the light, which was to end all ends
I fell asleep, and you were in my dreams
Always there when the day turned dark
Always there when the night turned cold
And you were there with me, and yet you never left

And then the light wasn’t so heavenly
And then the trees were there around me
Although the very same as before
It was a different picture now
Teeming with a new kind of light

I turned to the feeling of an unknown presence
And there you were, so familiar and yet so divine
The darkness then was over, and left an angel in its place
And you were still the same, but before I was so blind
You were the angel in the dark, you were the angel in my mind

And then I started falling consumed again by the night
Panic stricken and hopeless, I wanted back the light
Looking to the heavens, I noticed now that there were stars
And that wonderful unknown presence had me held tight there in your arms
And you were the angel lying next to me, always there protecting me
Protecting me inside my dreams.
